Alan Warren is a researcher at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, specialising in the biodiversity and systematics of ciliates.  Current work is focused on the morphology, morphogenesis and molecular phylogeny of marine ciliates in coastal waters of China, and DNA-barcoding of spirotrichean ciliates. Other roles include: (i) curator of the NHM protozoan protist collection; (ii) member of editorial board of European Journal of Protistology, Systematics and Biodiversity, Protistology, Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, and Aula Museos y Colecciones de Ciencias Naturales; (iii) editor with responsibility for ciliates in World Register of Marine Species; (iv) member of steering committee of the International Research Coordination Network for Biodiversity of Ciliates. Alan served as Vice President of the International Society of Protistologists (2013-2014) and President of Protistology UK (2012-2015).
