The 2017 Conference will be the first time that the Society awards four sets of poster prizes. The first set will be awarded by the Editors of our journals, the second chosen by members of the Early Career Microbiologists’ Forum, while our Principle Investigators will select the third. The fourth “People’s Choice” award will be decided upon by delegates at the event.

To support attendance, the Microbiology Society offers grants for delegates at different stages of their careers. For full details, please see our dedicated grants page.

The Annual Conference is open to members and non-members alike. However, joining the Society gives you access to a discount on registration costs. When registering, eligible early career delegates can also choose to enter the Sir Howard Dalton Young Microbiologist of the Year Competition – see our website for details .

Protistology-UK is happy to announce that this year we are able to support a certain amount of students and early career PostDocs, who are either giving a talk or presenting a poster at our two sessions at the Microbiology Society Annual Meeting 2017, or who wish to attend and get a first experience at a scientific conference and would like to meet scientists in the field of protistology.

Award amount is dependent on distance from conference venue, number of days attending, and need for accommodation. Applicants may also request the cost of conference registration. Applicants will receive less than the maximum amount ( £500) if, for example, they are not attending all days of the event or they live within a one hour commute of the event venue.

Applications must be made on the form available on this page and submitted until the 1st of March 2017 (5pm UK time). Applications should be submitted by email ( or Full expected costs of attendance should be given.

Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Society and the decision is final. The support of the Protistology-UK Society and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation should be acknowledged in any presentation (click for logos).

Recipients of the award will be reimbursed after the meeting provided that they send proof of the registration with the needed claim forms and receipts.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and applications, and hope to see you in Edinburgh.
